Introduction to the Institute of Fiber Materials and Devices

The Institute of Fiber Materials and Devices of Fudan University is an independent secondary research entity within the university, known for its internationally impactful work in fields such as the synthesis of new material, the development of fiber energy and electronic device, and the construction of intelligent textile system. The faculty members in institute have repeatedly undertaken national key scientific and technological projects, including projects funded by the National Key Research and Development Program of China and Innovative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. They have received significant academic awards both domestically and internationally, including the National Natural Science Award (Second Prize), Top Ten Science Advances in China, and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry's Top Ten Emerging Technologies in chemistry.

The Institute is guided by the exploration of cutting-edge global technology and addressing significant national needs. It features interdisciplinary integration and a full range of research spanning from scientific inquiry to technological advancement to product development. Its primary focus is around the innovative directions in the field of fiber materials and devices, encompassing the synthesis of polymers, the fabrication of new materials, the design of multifunctional fiber devices and the integration of electronic textile system. The Institute is dedicated to systematically and comprehensively establishing the theoretical architecture within the domain of fiber devices, promoting the integration and development of multidisciplinary including polymer, chemistry, material, information technology, and medicine, and nurturing cross-disciplinary talents. Furthermore, the Institute is committed to accelerate the continuous production and large-scale application of fiber devices, addressing critical issues in important industrial sectors such as specialty fiber materials, flexible electronics, human-computer interaction, and health monitoring. It aims to establish a research platform with a complete chain that encompasses the entire spectrum from novel theoretical discoveries to disruptive technologies and ultimately to the development of major innovative products.

Moreover, the Institute is based on the Department of Macromolecular Science and the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Engineering of Polymers of Fudan University. It is in deep collaboration with various departments, including the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Materials Science, Laboratory of Advanced Materials, the School of Information Science and Technology, and the School of Life Sciences. Currently, it has established a comprehensive management system for characterization of molecular composition and structure, structure-performance relationship, characterization of energy and electronic devices, processing and shaping, effectively meeting the development requirements for exemplary research.

  • Positions available: Professor/Research fellow

    Position qualifications: Candidates should have good ideological and moral qualities, abide by academic ethics, love education and advocate scientific spirit. They should have reached the equivalent level of professors in famous universities or research institutions at home and abroad. They are required to have achieved original and systematic research results in their fields and have outstanding academic contributions and a high academic reputation in related disciplines.


The second category: Outstanding young talents

  • Positions available: Young Research Fellow/Young Associate Research Fellow

    Position qualifications: Candidates should have good ideological and moral qualities, abide by academic ethics, love education and advocate scientific spirit. They should have a good academic background and have obtained a Ph.D. degree from well-known universities at home and abroad. They are required to have innovative achievements and good development potential in Organic Synthesis, Photoelectric Materials and Devices, New Energy Materials and Devices, Biomedical Materials, Flexible Electronics and other related fields. The age of the candidate is generally not more than 40 years old, and we especially welcome young scientists and industrial engineers of the post-90s generation to join.
